The MSHDA Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) is a federal income tax credit issued in connection with the purchase of a home. Qualified homebuyers can credit 20% of the annual mortgage interest paid against their year-end federal tax liability as a dollar-for-dollar reduction in tax owed, for the life of the original mortgage (up to 30 years). It is available to first-time homebuyers statewide and to repeat homebuyers in targeted areas, and must be applied for and approved through an approved MCC lender before purchase.
