The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP) Down Payment Assistance Program provides enrolled tribal members residing in Michigan with assistance toward down payment, rate buy-down, and closing costs. Assistance is up to 20% of the primary mortgage, capped at $20,000 per member/household, on homes with a total purchase price not exceeding $175,000. The assistance is a second mortgage forgiven after five years of owner-occupancy, with a graduated recovery schedule on earlier defaults. Funded through NAHASDA / the Indian Housing Block Grant; one award per member per lifetime.
