Connect your Follow Up Boss account
If you work out of Follow Up Boss, you shouldn't have to check two places for the same lead. Connect your account once and every new homebuyer who reaches you through Hey Prescott shows up in Follow Up Boss on their own — with a link back to their full file here.
It takes about two minutes, and the only thing you need is an API key from your own Follow Up Boss account.
Getting your API key
The key lives in Follow Up Boss, not here.
- Sign in to Follow Up Boss.
- Go to Admin → API.
- Click Create API Key. Name it something you'll recognise later — "Hey Prescott" works.
- Copy the key straight away.
That last step matters more than it looks. Follow Up Boss shows an API key exactly once. Close that screen without copying it and there's no way to see it again — you'd just generate a new one. So copy it before you click anything else.
Connecting it here
- In Hey Prescott, go to Settings → Integrations.
- Paste the key into the Follow Up Boss card.
- Click Connect.
We check the key with Follow Up Boss before saving anything. If it's wrong or expired you'll see Follow Up Boss's own error message rather than a vague failure, so you'll know whether to re-copy it or generate a new one.
Two kinds of connection, and which one you'll get
This is the part worth understanding, because it depends on whose Follow Up Boss account the key came from — and there's nothing you can do about it from this end.
If your key belongs to the account owner, you get a two-way connection. New leads go out to Follow Up Boss, and stage changes you make there come back here and update the lead's status.
If your key belongs to an admin or an agent, you get a one-way connection. New leads still go out to Follow Up Boss and work exactly as they should. Changes you make in Follow Up Boss just don't come back.
Follow Up Boss only lets the account owner set up the connections that send changes back to other systems. That's their rule, not ours, and it's not a sign your key is bad. Your Integrations page will say "Connected — one way" so you're never guessing which kind you have.
If you want the two-way version and you're not the account owner, ask whoever owns your Follow Up Boss account to generate the key.
What actually gets sent
When a homebuyer becomes your lead in Hey Prescott, we send Follow Up Boss:
- their name, email and phone
- a note saying how they reached you — your branded link, your DPA widget, a profile request, and so on
- whether they asked for a call, an email, or to book time
- a link back to their full file in Hey Prescott
Follow Up Boss matches on email and phone, so an existing contact gets updated rather than duplicated. Every contact is tagged Hey Prescott and the lead source is set to Hey Prescott, which means you can build a Follow Up Boss action plan or routing rule around it, and see in your own source reporting how Hey Prescott compares to your other lead sources.
What we deliberately don't send: anything that could read as a rate, a monthly payment, a qualification, or a recommendation of a specific assistance program. Hey Prescott is educational, and that holds just as firmly when our words land in your CRM as when they're on our own screen. The full picture — programs they matched, their wizard answers, their plan — stays in Hey Prescott, where it comes with its context.
Mapping your stages (two-way connections)
Follow Up Boss stages are whatever your brokerage decided to call them. "Nurture" might mean something quite different in your office than in the one down the road, so we don't guess.
Under the Follow Up Boss card you'll see each of your stages with a dropdown next to it. Pick what each one means in Hey Prescott — or leave it on Don't sync, which is where everything starts.
Anything left on "Don't sync" is ignored completely. If you never touch this section, nothing in Hey Prescott will ever be changed by something happening in Follow Up Boss. That's deliberate: a lead quietly showing the wrong status is worse than one showing no status at all.
What lands on the contact
Beyond the name, email and phone, Hey Prescott adds nine fields to your Follow Up Boss contacts, all prefixed so you can tell at a glance which ones came from us:
- Hey Prescott Profile — a link straight back to their full file here
- Target Area, First-Time Buyer, Property Type, Household Size
- Income Band, Purchase Price Band, Credit Band, Profession
We create these for you when you connect. That only works if your key belongs to the account owner — Follow Up Boss doesn't let anyone else add fields. If it couldn't, the Integrations screen lists the exact labels to add under Admin → Custom Fields. Spell them exactly as shown: Follow Up Boss builds its internal field name from the label, so "Target area" and "Target Area" are different fields, and the wrong one silently never fills in.
Money and credit arrive as ranges — "$60K – $80K", "620 – 659" — because that's what your homebuyer told the questionnaire. They're a starting point for a conversation, not verified figures, and showing them as ranges keeps that clear on both sides.
Two things we deliberately don't send. Matched programs stay in Hey Prescott, because the catalogue changes and a copy in your CRM would quietly go out of date — that's what the profile link is for. And the readiness score stays private to the homebuyer; we tell them it's never shared, so it isn't.
If a homebuyer hasn't finished the questionnaire yet, those fields arrive empty and fill in on their own once they do.
Disconnecting
Go to Settings → Integrations and click Disconnect.
That removes the connection from Follow Up Boss's side and deletes your API key from ours. Nothing is deleted in Follow Up Boss — leads we already sent stay exactly where they are, because they're your contacts. If you reconnect later, any stage mapping you set up is still there waiting.
You can also revoke the key from Follow Up Boss's Admin → API screen at any time. Do that and the connection simply stops working from their end; disconnecting here afterwards still works.
If something looks wrong
"Connected — one way" and you expected two-way. Your key isn't from the account owner. See above.
Leads aren't arriving. Check the Follow Up Boss card for an error message — we record the last failure there. The most common cause is a key that was revoked or regenerated in Follow Up Boss; reconnect with a fresh one.
Leads aren't arriving and there's no error. In Follow Up Boss, check that the lead flow for the "Hey Prescott" source hasn't been archived. An archived lead flow makes Follow Up Boss accept leads and then discard them, which looks like success from the outside.
Stage changes aren't coming back. Either the connection is one-way, or that stage is still set to "Don't sync".
Still stuck? Open a support ticket from Help → Support and mention Follow Up Boss — we can see whether your connection is healthy from our side.
